Growing up we are told to follow our dreams. I never expected mine to come in the middle of the night — but it did.
It was a Tuesday during my senior year of college and I went to sleep just like any other night. But that night, I had a dream that would forever change my life. I woke up vividly remembering what I heard the night before.
“Put whiskey in granola and call it Granarly.”
I had no idea this was a God dream. I didn’t even have the strongest relationship with the Lord at this time. But that day, I whipped up a batch of granola baked with whiskey and realized that this could be something big.
That’s when Granarly was born.
The only problem is that the same week I had this dream, I also got accepted into veterinary school on an island called Grenada. This was an actual dream of mine. Talk about confusing.
But I knew that my dream was dying and a new dream was being born — a God dream.
Although God was growing this dream inside of my heart, I was actually walking through a season of brokenness. And honestly, if it wasn’t for this time I may have never visited 318LIVE, a local young adult ministry. After my first visit, I applied to become an intern and my life began to radically change. That’s when I met a friend who saw potential in Granarly and spoke life into it.
It wasn’t until I started walking with the Lord that I realized this dream was a gift from God. I realized that He chose me to carry this dream and steward it well. And God has a dream for your life too.
Today I want to challenge you to DREAM:
D — Dare Yourself
Joyce Meyer said it best, “If you are facing a new challenge or being asked to do something that you have never done before don’t be afraid to step out. You have more capability than you think you do but you will never see it unless you place a demand on yourself for more.”
R — Remember Whose You Are
You are a child God, the ultimate Creator. He is the giver of all creative ideas. Therefore you have dreams engraved in your DNA. Don’t forget that you are created in His image!
E — Experiment The Possibilities
You will fail at times — but when you fail it’s an opportunity to grow and learn. Experiment with your ideas and passions! Be okay with not always getting it right the first time.
A — Accept Who You Are
This has been key in my journey. For years I believed the lie that my ideas were stupid. It wasn’t until I found my identity in Christ that I began having confidence in my ideas. Accept the way God made you and be the best you can be.
M — Make It Happen
Chase after your dreams. Don’t be afraid to take a step. Move boldly toward the ideas that God has placed in your heart. He will never leave you and never fail you, I promise.
God gave me a scripture to stand on while I was building my business. Psalms 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” The message of my life is much more than granola, it’s about the goodness of God.
Chase your dreams.
