Have you ever felt like you were out of place?
Me too.
On September 1, 2017 my family packed a moving truck, canceled a 12 month apartment lease and moved to Austin, Texas.
After returning from our honeymoon, my wife and I realized that where we were was starting to feel less and less like our place. Less and less like our home.
We had great jobs, a great church, and great friends. But we didn’t feel like we were home.
So we prayed.
And prayed.
And prayed.
We asked God where, what, when, etc. We were trying to get some clear answers. And I felt like God answered our questions with a question:
“Do you trust Me?”
Through my short time following Jesus I’ve realized that sometimes walking by faith isn’t going to make sense. Sometimes walking by faith looks like God answering your prayers with questions. Sometimes walking by faith looks like leaving security and stability.
Sometimes walking by faith looks foolish.
But that’s what faith is, right? Faith is taking steps towards the dream God put in your heart despite what you see.
In 1 Samuel 14:6 the Bible says, “Then Jonathan said to the young man who was carrying his armor, ‘Come and let us cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; perhaps the Lord will work for us, for the Lord is not restrained to save by many or by few’”
Right before this verse I imagine Jonathan’s armor bearer asking him “Did God tell you to go up the mountain?” Jonathan’s response is what I believe walking by faith looks like…
“Perhaps the Lord will work for us.”
God didn’t tell me and my wife to go to Austin. God didn’t tell me this is our forever. God didn’t tell me to start a full time photography business — but perhaps the Lord.
Perhaps the Lord that created the universe. The One who created me. The One who gave me all my gifts. The One who raised Jesus from the dead — maybe that God will work for me.
I believe with my whole heart that having faith is trusting what God says — even when it doesn’t make sense. Even when it is hard.
Chasing God’s dream in your heart isn’t easy. But just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it’s bad. The devil wants to steal your hope, kill your dreams, and destroy your life 24/7, 365 days a year even on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
When you step out in faith it doesn’t make the devil happy.
He will throw junk at you left and right, night and day — but the dream God has put in your heart is worth every hard day.
What has God asked you to do? Is He asking you to take a step of faith? Is He asking you to go into the wild?
Is God asking, “Do you trust Me?”
If your answer is yes then my question to you is this, what’s stopping you?
Don’t let fear stop you from chasing after the dream in your heart.
Don’t let fear stop you from stepping into the wild.
Don’t let fear stop you from trusting God.
You must learn to be led by God in faith or you will be led by the devil in fear.
Remember, walking by faith isn’t always going to make sense — but it will always be worth it.
