French fries are the crux of my existence. It’s another day and another  broken promise. I’ve betrayed myself for the love of deep fried comfort rather than sticking to my guns and melting away slowly with a salad fork.

I’ve embraced compromise.

The funny thing about the word compromise is that another word is hidden in it — promise. And essentially when we compromise we’re saying no to an original promise and yes to a new promise. Sure it can affect our gym attendance and drop our test scores a little bit but what happens when the stakes are higher?

Better yet, since we’ve made a new promise, what happens to the original promise?

Well. It’s voided. The new promise takes the place of the original promise. But what’s more is that the new promise is made with a new party. One that you’re now in agreement with.

Essentially when we compromise our faith we’re making an agreement with the enemy of our souls. We’re saying no to our commitment to Christ and yes to a new promise made with Satan. This leaves an open door for evil to infect many areas of our lives.

One compromise leads to another and we feel trapped in sin.

But thankfully the blood of Jesus Christ has enough power to break every stronghold of the enemy. When we repent, we’re changing our minds about the new promise we’ve made with the enemy. The grace and mercy of Jesus Christ floods our hearts we’re free to return to freedom.

“Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.” Galatians 5:1 (MSG)

Maybe you’ve allowed compromise into your life without realizing what you were doing. Or maybe you’ve fully embraced a compromising lifestyle and you feel trapped. But I want to encourage you, freedom is found in Christ.
