Last week I wrote about the spirit of python as mentioned in Acts 16. If you haven’t had a chance to read it, you can here. This blog focuses on practical ways of overcoming this attack.
While living in Sweden last year, I began sleeping very badly. I would wake up many times every night, had nightmares and was always tired. It felt like a spiritual attack, but I had no idea how to fight it. I would pray, worship, and read my Bible but it didn’t seem to help.
Then one night I heard the Holy Spirit whisper something to me. He said, “you’re fighting a python spirit.” To be honest, I was skeptical of what I heard and questioned if I was making it up. I had never heard of the python spirit, but after doing some biblical research and seeking wise counsel, I found that it was a real thing.
Within days I felt release and began sleeping perfectly — Here’s what I did to overcome the python spirit.
1. Engage the right enemy
This one is huge — it is hard to win a battle when you do not know who you are up against. When you unmask the schemes of Satan and see clearly who you are fighting, you can focus your efforts in the right direction.
2. Confide in a friend
Most significant battles cannot be won alone, it is important to confide in a friend and pray together. Remember, we are better together.
3. Pray specifically
If we are not careful, we can find ourselves praying against the symptoms of the enemy rather than the enemy. Pray against the spirit of python. Ask God to give you strength to overcome and divine protection against the attacks of the enemy.
4. Use the Word of God
When Jesus was tempted by Satan, He used the Word of God as His weapon. I recommend reading Psalm 91 over your life daily. The Word of God is powerful, use what the Lord has already given you for victory.
5. Worship regularly
It has been said that worship is a weapon. When you worship you create an atmosphere that God fills with His presence. And in His presence, there is joy and strength.
I want to encourage you, winning the battle against the spirit of python is 100% practical and 100% spiritual. It is both an event and a process. So don’t give up because in Christ the victory is already yours.
Psalm 91:11-13 “For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and cobra, the young lion and the serpent you will trample down.”
